Tips for passing the CompTIA A+ certification

Tips for passing the CompTIA A+ certification

I recently obtained my CompTIA A+ certification and wanted to share my experience of how I passed both the 220-1101 (Core 1) and 220-1102 (Core 2) exams. This post will provide you with some helpful tips on how to better prepare for passing the CompTIA A+ certification.

About the CompTIA A+

The CompTIA A+ certification is broken up into two exams, the Core 1 and Core 2. Each exam is 90 minutes long, and you can receive a maximum of 90 questions. The exams are also scored on a scale of 900, and you need a 675 to pass Core 1, and a 700 to pass Core 2. You can learn more about the A+ certification, including exam objectives, by visiting CompTIA’s website here.

Study Resources

Here is a list of resources that I used to study for both the Core 1 and Core 2 exams:

Each resource has an A+ video series that can be found on their YouTube playlist. I recommend starting with Professor Messer’s video series, as he is a widely recommended resource for A+ prep. Then you should watch a video series from another resource, as it can be helpful to see the material presented from another perspective. I also watched each video series more than once to make sure I was retaining the information.

It’s also recommended that you find a good CompTIA A+ prep book to read. I personally prefer to learn by watching videos, but you should do whatever works best for you. For books, one that seems to be a popular choice is the CompTIA A+ All-in-One Exam Guide, Eleventh Edition by Mike Myers. I also recommend completing lots of practice questions to test your knowledge, and you can find plenty of free ones on YouTube. There are also some popular paid options for practice tests offered by Professor Messer on his website, professormesser.com, and by Jason Dion on Udemy.

Exam Tips

When it comes to taking the exams, time management is crucial. Make sure that you manage your time efficiently and don’t spend too much time on one question. If you’re unsure about the answer to a question, move on and come back to it later. You want to give yourself enough time to complete each question so you don’t feel rushed at the end of the exam. Finally, if you have some time left at the end, go back through and review your answers one last time before submitting.

I hope you find these tips helpful for passing your CompTIA A+, and good luck on your exams!
